Summer Haze
Showcasing word-class headline acts, Summer Haze is your go-to for a mesmerising summer filled with music and memories. Over the past few years, Summer Haze has connected music enthusiasts in Tauranga and Matakana.
Closed Loop has continued to work with Summer Haze to provide epic sustainability results including recycling and repurposing more than 80% of all waste!
Our impact:
Repurposing more than 80% of waste
Our Closed Loop team hand-sorts all waste from the Summer Haze each year.
Similar to other music festivals, waste included aluminium cans, soft plastics, food waste and packaging, paper cups, glass and other miscellaneous items. Based on Closed Loop recommendations from 2021, waste generated reduced by 56.8%!
With low waste input, and an additional two waste streams in 2022 we have repurposed and recycled more than 80% of waste to create a sustainable event for all Summer Haze attendees.
Year | Waste generated | # of material streams | Repurposing rate |
---|---|---|---|
2022 | 15.3m³ | 9 | 82.2% |
2021 | 35.7m³ | 7 | 81% |
Material streams
At all events, Closed Loop hand-sorts all waste to ensure we can repurpose as much as possible.
Aluminium cans
One of the main material streams recycled included aluminium cans. These were recycled locally and made into other aluminium products.

Cardboard
Recycled locally into paper pulp for recycled paper products and packaging.
Clear glass
To increase recycling capacity, glass was separated by colour. Clear glass was crushed and recycled into other glass products.
Green glass
